Despite great cars like the Lancer Evolution, the Galant VR4, the first couple of generations of Eclipses… Wow, Mitsubishi has gone downhill in the past few years. While being successful overseas, their American presence has never been that strong and after only a 0.4% market share in October, Mitsubishi is unfortunately exiting the U.S. post 2014.

If you’re interested in numbers, in 2012, Mitusbishi sold less than 60,000 units and that was down from 80,000 in 2011. That was the biggest decline in sales of any automotive brand in the U.S. and it is spilling over into this year. From Jan – October sales have fallen and they’ve barely hit 50,000 units sold. With their dwindling numbers a low market share, Mitsubishi will probably forgo releasing 2015 – 2016 models in America.

It’s unfortunate to hear that Mitsubishi is leaving despite their lineup looking very good after all of the remodeling a couple years ago but they belong to more of a niche market. It also didn’t help that J.D. Power gave them the 3rd worst spot on the list of dependable vehicles. You will be able to pick out Subaru drivers by the massive grins on their faces from now on.

Hey, if we’re lucky, maybe we’ll get the Proton Lancer instead! (joking)
