2015 BMW M3 Reveal

BMW unveiled the 2015 BMW M3 Sedan and 2015 BMW M4 Coupe on the same day so we’re creating one post to rule them all. We knew what the M4 would look like a few months ago so the M3, albeit awesome, wasn’t a huge surprise. And you know what the best part is? The M3 and the M4 are the same car! Well, pretty much…

The biggest news from the BMW lineup is that the much anticipated 4-series is not replacing the 3-series… entirely. It is, however, replacing all of the 3-series coupes so they can be branded as separate cars. From now on, if you want 4 doors, you get the M3, and if you want 2 doors, you get the M4. Got it? Good. Now that we got that settled, here’s the cool stuff:

BMW is kicking their 4.0 Liter V8 to the curb and adding a more powerful, more efficient twin-turbo 3.0 Liter V6. Both the 2015 M3 and M4 are getting this engine and it’s 11 more horsepowery and 111 more torquey than the old engine. That puts the new M’s at 425 hp and 406 ft-lbs of torque! I know the V8 was famous for it’s high revving symphony but don’t worry, the Turbo’d 6 will hit 7600 rpms.

On top of gaining more power, the M’s have also been on a diet. Both are made almost entirely out of aluminum and the parts that aren’t are made of carbon fiber. Those materials make the car incredibly light and very stiff. To keep the M’s on the road, they have huge 18×9 wheels on the front and 18×10 on the back. Pair that with an electronic rear differential and a dual-clutch gearbox and you have a mighty good recipe for fast.

Both the M3 and M4 will come with an array of options, colors, and plenty of “M” badges to look at. They will officially be revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January and we’re guessing the prices will start in the upper $60,000s. The only downside to the 2015 M3 and M4? They’re capped at 155 mph :(
